Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday August 3, 2024, and ending at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday August 4, 2024, the State of Arkansas will hold its sales tax holiday allowing shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain Electronic Devices, School Supplies, School Art Supplies, School Instructional Materials, and Clothing free of state and local sales or use tax.


It’s called “I See Me”, an Empowerment through Affirmation seminar, coming up July 31st from 5-7 p.m. at the Forrest City Civic Center.
Topics will include Self-Affirmation, Self-Validation, Self-Image and Positive Body Image.
The goal of the seminar is to help attendees become more spiritual, emotionally equipped and mentally empowered.


Forrest City Public Library Summer Reading Finale!!!


The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for the mid-south region for today (Wednesday) and Thursday, each day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Weather experts advise that dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 112 degrees are expected.


Mayor Bryant and Keith Britton took a significant step towards addressing the flooding challenges in our community by reviewing detailed maps of the watershed project. This critical initiative aims to improve flood management and enhance water flow systems throughout the Forrest City area.
The watershed project is designed to mitigate flooding risks, protect property, and ensure the safety of our residents. By closely examining these maps, Mayor Bryant and Keith Britton are working diligently to identify key areas for intervention and to develop effective solutions tailored to our community’s needs.

Ropers Outdoors is sponsoring a free youth fishing event on Saturday, August 3rd at the Larry S. Bryant Sports Complex. The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas will host drive-thru commodity distributions in St. Francis County on Wednesday, July 31, from 8-10 a.m. or until food runs out at the following locations:
--Larry Bryant Multi-Purpose Center in Forrest City
--Wheatley City Hall
--Palestine City Hall
Persons receiving USDA foods must reside in St. Francis County and must the income guidelines that have been set for the Emergency Food Assistance Program.
USDA foods are distributed on a first come, first served basis.


A representative from Legal Aid of Arkansas will be at the Forrest City Public Library on Tuesday, July 30th, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Call the library at 870-633-5646 to make an appointment.

The Auxiliary at Forrest City Medical Center is seeking new volunteers. If you have a giving heart and would like to devote some time volunteering, they would be happy to have you on board. Their infamous "pink ladies", keep the hospital gift shop running smoothly, raise money for scholarships for local healthcare students, host fund raisers, health fairs, as well as help with hosting several events within the hospital. If interested in volunteering with the Auxiliary, please reach out to one of the ladies in the gift shop Monday through Friday 10 am -2 pm at 870-261-0417.

The Plum Foundation will have their annual Back to School Giveaway on Monday, July 29th at 12 noon at the Nineveh Temple Cogic Church, located at 208 West Broadway in Forrest City. Call 1-888-215-4513 with any questions.


The Forrest City Verizon store will be hosting a “backpack giveaway” on July 28th at 1 p.m. at their location at 201 Deadrick Road in Forrest City. Verizon will be giving away backpacks filled with school supplies and books. The event will also feature lots of fun activities for the kids, including music and games, plus there’ll be food vendors on site. Children must be present to get the supplies. Join Junior Auxiliary of St. Francis County for Messy Buns & Water Fun Saturday, July 27th at 10:00 am at the Campbell House located at 305 N. Forrest St. in Forrest City. This is a mother/son water war event with each mother/son registration $15. Addition children are $5. The water sprayers will be provided. Come join the fun!

Women in Transition to Glory Services, Inc. is hosting their Women’s Clothing Drive.
They invite you to participate by donating or receiving items. The drive aims to provide essential clothing for women during job interviews. They need gently used items that are aimed to promote professional attire. The St. Francis Extension Homemakers Council will host an information/recruitment session on Saturday, July 27th at 2 p.m. at Woodruff Electric in Forrest City. For more information, call Marla Lane at the St. Francis County Extension office at 870-261-1730.

The Winthrop Rockefeller Institute welcomes all to attend a Civic Arkansas listening session. The listening session will focus on local community and multiple forms of civic engagement such as social connectedness, community meetings, and news media. The listening session will be held on Thursday, July 25th in Forrest City at the Civic Center Henley Room from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
